Industry Guide

Consumer electronics enclosures: the finish is the product

In consumer hardware the sheet metal part is often the first thing a customer touches. Surface quality, edge feel and colour consistency across a production run matter as much as the dimensions, and a rejection at this level is usually about appearance rather than function.

The engineering work behind that appearance is substantial: consistent grain direction on brushed faces, masked areas for logos, controlled coating build so that gaps and reveals stay even, and packaging that protects a cosmetic face through a container shipment.

Typical consumer electronics parts we manufacture
  • PC and server chassis with cosmetic panels
  • Smart-home hub and gateway enclosures
  • Audio equipment housings and grilles
  • Set-top box and router covers
  • Internal shielding cans and brackets
Define the cosmetic zone on the drawing
Which faces does the end user see, and from what distance? A stated cosmetic zone lets inspection match reality instead of guessing, and it tells the finishing line which panels need individual handling and film.
Colour consistency is a batch discipline
Powder coat colour varies between powder batches and between oven runs. For visible parts we keep a project’s coating on one batch or qualify a colour standard, and we keep retained samples so a follow-up order matches the first shipment.
Edge feel is a specification
A hand passes over edges constantly on consumer devices. Deburring and edge-breaking are defined operations here, not a by-product of cutting, and the standard is written into the drawing.
Material and finish choices for consumer enclosures
SPCC 0.8–1.5 mm for covers, aluminium 5052/6061 where a premium feel or heat dissipation is wanted, and SGCC for internal structural parts. Powder coat for colour, anodising for metallic finishes, brushing for directional grain, silk printing for logos and markings — usually in combination on one part, which makes the process sequence part of the design.
Quality records consumer electronics buyers ask for
Dimensional reports, coating thickness, colour versus retained standard, appearance-class inspection against the cosmetic zone, and RoHS/REACH declarations. Packaging is part of the spec: cosmetic faces are protected with film and interleaving, and drop-test expectations are agreed before the first shipment.

Frequently asked questions

What industries does WERIX serve?

WERIX serves 14+ industries: telecom, data center, new energy, automotive/EV, industrial automation, 3D printing, power grid, robotics, banking equipment, consumer electronics, LED lighting, home appliances, and more. See the full industry list.

Can WERIX make custom sheet metal parts for my specific industry?

Yes. WERIX manufactures custom sheet metal parts for any industry. Upload your CAD file and our engineers will provide DFM feedback and process recommendations specific to your application.

Can I order a variant that is not shown in the catalogue?

Yes. The catalogue shows representative parts to demonstrate what we manufacture. Dimensions, hole patterns, materials, finishes and quantity are all customised — upload your own drawing and we will quote against it.

Do you support OEM and ODM projects?

Yes. We manufacture to your drawings as a contract manufacturer, and can also support design work — DFM feedback, material selection, tolerance rationalisation and assembly design — when you are still finalising the product.

How do you protect tooling that you build for my project?

Stamping dies built for your programme are dedicated to your parts and are not used for other customers. Die ownership, maintenance responsibilities and tooling transfer terms are set out in writing before the project starts.

What kinds of sheet metal parts does WERIX make?

Enclosures, chassis, brackets, panels, racks, frames and stamped components across telecom, data center, EV, industrial and medical equipment. The catalogue shows representative parts; every dimension, material and finish is then customised to your drawing.

Do you make parts for data centers and AI servers?

Yes. WERIX builds 19-inch rack chassis, GPU enclosures, PDUs, liquid-cooling manifolds and cable management from 1.0-2.0 mm steel or 5052 aluminium, with +/-0.10 mm cut tolerance. See the data center parts we supply and the materials we recommend.

Can WERIX handle both CNC fabrication and stamping for the same product?

Yes. A part can start as laser-cut and bent for prototyping, then move to progressive-die stamping at volume - same factory, same datum, same inspection plan. Our capabilities cover both paths under one roof.

Do you offer design help (DFM) for my product?

Yes. As a contract manufacturer we provide DFM feedback, material selection, tolerance rationalisation and assembly design while you finalise the product. Upload the drawing to the quote form and an engineer returns notes with the price.

Do you make sheet metal parts for EV and battery energy storage (BESS)?

Yes. WERIX builds battery enclosures, busbar covers, inverter cabinets and mounting structures from 1.0–3.0 mm 5052 aluminium or 304 stainless, typically held to ±0.10 mm cut tolerance with powder coating or anodizing. We support prototypes through volume stamping on one floor, so the same part scales from sample to production. See the industries we serve.

Can you supply sheet metal for telecom and 5G equipment?

Yes. We manufacture 19-inch rack chassis, RF shields, antenna brackets and outdoor cabinets in galvanized or stainless steel and 5052 aluminium, with PEM hardware insertion and powder or plating finishes. ±0.10 mm cut tolerance and batch traceability come as standard. Browse the telecom parts we supply and the materials we recommend.

Do you fabricate enclosures for medical equipment?

Yes — WERIX manufactures metal enclosures, brackets and chassis for medical equipment under our ISO 9001 quality system, with first article inspection, dimensional reports and batch traceability. Device-level biocompatibility or ISO 13485-certified manufacturing is outside our scope; tell us the requirement and we confirm whether it fits before quoting. See the about page for our certifications.

Do you build liquid-cooled cold plates and rack manifolds for AI data centers?

Yes. Alongside the 19-inch rack chassis, GPU enclosures and PDU housings we build, we fabricate liquid-cooling manifolds, cold-plate mounting frames and coolant distribution brackets from 1.0–2.0 mm 5052 aluminium or cold-rolled steel, held to ±0.10 mm cut tolerance so mounting holes line up across a rack. See the data center parts we supply and the 5052 guide for the alloy we recommend.

Can you fabricate EV charger and battery energy storage (BESS) enclosures?

Yes. We build EV charger enclosures, BESS cabinet shells, battery module enclosures and busbar covers from 1.0–3.0 mm 5052 aluminium or 304 stainless, with powder coating or anodizing and ±0.10 mm cut tolerance. The same part can run as a laser-cut sample and then move to volume stamping on one floor. Browse the new energy parts and the 304 guide for material choices.

Which stainless grade do you recommend for medical equipment enclosures?

304 is the default for most medical carts, enclosures and brackets; 316L is specified where the part sees frequent cleaning chemicals, saline or sterilisation. Both are fabricated under our ISO 9001 system with first article inspection and batch traceability. Device-level biocompatibility or ISO 13485-certified manufacturing is outside our scope — tell us the requirement and we confirm fit before quoting. Compare the grades in our 304 guide and 304 vs 316 comparison.

What finish do you recommend for outdoor telecom and 5G cabinets?

Outdoor telecom cabinets pair a gasketed, welded seam with outdoor polyester powder coating over phosphate pretreatment — the default for 5G enclosures and antenna brackets. For coastal or highly corrosive sites, move to 316 stainless or hot-dip galvanized steel under the powder topcoat. All finishes are carried out by our licensed partner plants to specification and inspected by us. See the finishes overview and the telecom parts we supply.
